Chicago-based industrial metal artist Resurrekto will be debuting a self-titled album later this year. Incorporating industrial and thrashy elements, Resurrekto’s music ranges from creepy tones to commenting on current issues like pollution and racism. While Resurrekto is still working on a release date, this interview gives insight to the inspirations, creative process, and themes of the album.
How long have you been writing/creating music? How did you first get started?
I’ve been writing music for a little over a year now. I first got started writing about random topics and for a few months bounced from band to band.
“Resurrekto” will be your debut album. What inspired you to create this project?
I honestly don’t remember what inspired me to start the project, but it has gone through multiple iterations. In its earlier forms, Resurrekto was very horror-inspired in a number of ways such as the themes of songs, the way things sounded, stuff like that. It then grew further and further away from that until it became what it is now.
How would you describe your current sound? Which of your songs would you recommend to first time listeners?
Right now, it’s sounding very industrial with some thrashy elements here and there. Lyrically, there’s a wide range. Some songs are vulgar, some are creepy, and some songs on the album are about current issues such as pollution and racism. While music won’t be released for a while, especially since the recordings were recently lost, the song I would recommend to first time listeners (for now at least) when it releases has the working title of “Ashes to Ashes.” So look out for that one in a few months.
What does your process look like when writing/creating music?
Usually I write lyrics and instrumentals separately and just put them together. However, now and then I’ll have one or the other in mind and they’ll exist specifically for each other.
What inspired the name Resurrekto?
The name Resurrekto is heavily inspired by a song from a pretty small artist named Kreeps. It’s the first song off of their album “Moon Stand Still, Us Fools Prefer Darkness.” The only difference is I dropped the first S and changed the C to a K. I don’t know why exactly I chose to name it after that of all things, but I’m fine with it.
What do you hope listeners take from your music? Is there a certain theme or emotion you try to convey?
Good question. Most of the songs don’t necessarily have a message to them. For the ones that do, the messages revolve around environmentalism and just not being an intolerant dick if that makes any sense.
If you could get any artists to tour with you, dead or alive, who would be on the bill?
If I could tour with anyone it would probably be between Gwar and Pain. Both were extremely influential on my works in music and with how some live stuff is going to play out. To elaborate on that last part, I have some effects and stunts per-say that I’d like to have happen live. Gwar especially have had a big influence on shock rock stuff like that as a whole.
What can we expect from you in the future?
You can expect more releases. There’s plenty of leftover stuff that won’t make it onto the debut album that I’ll probably put into another release. Another thing you can expect at some point, live shows. Resurrekto only consists of me and nobody else, so I’d have to find people willing to fill in the parts.
Keep up with Resurrekto:
