Golden Song: The Orphan The Poet's "Money"

Holy heck, The Orphan The Poet released a new song today, September 14th. Boy oh boy, am I living for this song! It's no secret that we here at InAlternative love The Orphan The Poet, so when this new single was announced, we had high expectations. The boys didn't let down. My goodness, I am in love! Before I go into the song, let's get some information on the guys. The band consists of David (Davey) Eselgroth on vocals, Jake (Jakey) Floyd on bass, and Sam (Sammy) Gordon on drums. Then there is Ty Bush who plays guitar with the band on tour. The band hails from Columbus, Ohio. Previously they put out Terrible Things, containing five songs and their single "Still Buzzin". Through their music thus far, the band has amassed a fan base who calls themselves "the hive". The band has been working on music throughout the summer and has been teasing us about "Money" for a few weeks. They tweeted little hints about the song and earlier this week, they announced the song would be out September 14th, just in time for tour. They're currently hitting the road with The Score for the fall.

Alright, now, "Money". I did not think this song could out do the bop that is "Still Buzzin", but here we are. I am in love with this dang song. The song is super catchy, so after about two or three listens, I knew the words for the most part. The song starts out loud and quick, starting immediately with the chorus ensuring the song will be stuck in your head for days. I was not prepared for the first five seconds of bop that is the beginning, let alone the rest of the song. The lyrics are relatable as can be, "All my other friends got money/ I don't really got no money/ But none of my friends got you/ But none of them got a clue". Same, my friends have money but I'm broke. So, same. But there is this sweet end part of the lyrics where David is essentially saying "my friends may have money, but I got something better; you". Honestly, this could be in reference to anything; David's wife, Sour Patch Kids for Jake, or even the fans/hive. Whether it is a lover, the fan base, or Jake's Sour Patch Kids, the sentiment is sweet. Then there's the drums and guitar that are just killer. The way the guitar sort of follows the vocals, during the chorus the guitar is loud and rougher. The drums just pull you in and keep you entranced in the song. The drums are easy to follow along to and try to air drum to. There's other interesting instrumentals that I can't really place, but keep me listening. I am living for everything about this song, from the lyrics and vocals, to the drums, to the guitar and bass, to the new aesthetic.

This whole song is pure gold. There is not a bad thing I can say about it, it will 100% be stuck in my head for days. I cannot stop listening to it! Please, please, please give this song a listen! It is honestly such a bop and my new favorite from the band. I cannot wait to hear this live with them this fall. Check them out this fall on tour with The Score! You won't regret it. Until then, check out "Money" on Spotify!
