Rock artist American Goner (K.M. North) recently released his latest album “Young Sinners, Old Sins” on March 5th, 2019. North has released quite a few EPs, albums, and singles under American Goner, and InAlternative reviewed his previous album “Your Hair Is Winter Fire”, which you can read here. We are happy to now review this latest album as well, as it is very well done and an overall upbeat addition to his discography.
The first thing that struck me about this album were the titles of the songs. I personally enjoy titles that are able to catch my eye without even listening to them, which these definitely did. With titles like “Your Voice and Architecture” and “Skeletal Nights”, I was already intrigued by these tracks. Once I began listening, I was really happy with the overall sound of this album.
One aspect of each song that I really like is the consistent, melodic guitar. Without overpowering or drowning out the vocals, the melodies add a bit of depth and upbeat nature to the songs. I also feel like this really pulls all the tracks together and makes the album a connected entity, which I really enjoy. I think the style of each song blends really well into a strong album.
Some tracks that stand out to me on this album are “Purity Rings and Promise Bracelets” and “A Real Life Suicide O’Hara”. I really enjoy these songs for similar reasons I mentioned before. I think that both of these songs have a really upbeat vibe and is something you can jam or dance to, which I really like. I also think “Purity Rings” specifically has a lot of depth and uses a variety of mediums to create a space for the song. From the intense drums at the beginning, to the use of spoken vocal tracks woven throughout, I think the song is very unique and interesting.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this album who is a fan of rock, or even indie/alternative rock. I can really tell that American Goner’s musical style and production quality has grown since the last album we reviewed, and it sounds really great. Please give this album a listen, as well as North’s other music, and give him a follow on social media.
