Artist of the Week: Northwest Indiana-based indie rock band Carousel Horse
“Formed by fiction writer Connor Lindsey, Carousel Horse was born out of lockdown-induced insomnia that sparked a cycle of writing songs and short stories in response to each other, culminating in a collection of low-fi basement demos, an MFA in Creative Writing from DePaul, and the forthcoming debut album, Geysers.
From folk songs without choruses to nineties alt-inspired rock and roll, Carousel Horse plays with genre, incorporating synthesizers one moment and a fiddle the next. For Geysers, Lindsey teamed up with his long-time collaborator Kyle Barron (No Name No Number), drummer Terry Boylan (Nomad Planets), violinist Al Joseph, and sound engineer John Carpenter (Thunderclap Recording, Nomad Planets). Geysers will be available on all major streaming platforms on October 6th.” -Connor Lindsey
Song of the Week: “Pocket Baggage” by Carousel Horse
“Pocket Baggage” is the first single release from the band’s upcoming album Geysers. The song builds expertly, each verse and chorus expanding the musical landscape. Melodic guitar riffs and steady drums back vocals that guide us through a story, mirroring the emotional range. With an entirely full, well-rounded sound and immersive lyricism, “Pocket Baggage” is a stunning introduction to Carousel Horse’s craft.
