Forged Icon EP Review

Chicago-based metallic hardcore band Forged Icon released their debut self-titled EP on June 30th, 2023. Comprised of Matthew Garrity (vocals), Alex Wilder (guitar), Jesse Defatta (guitar), and Joseph Martinez (drums), the band features members of Nora Marks and Cut Your Losses, two other Chicago groups. With thunderous vocals, mighty drums, and gritty guitar, Forged Icon is a monstrous, commanding release.

The EP’s single release “SHOCK COLLAR” creeps in with layered guitar riffs before crushing drums and low, brutal vocals erupt. This track drives heavy energy, gradually sinking into a powerful breakdown, never wavering in intensity. “DUG OUT” is fast, frenzied, and sure to break out a mosh pit. “BRASS KNUCKLE TAX” forces through the end with charging, crazed instrumentals.
