Hollow Head Self-Titled Album Review

Written by Demi Marshall

Denver-based indie rock band Hollow Head recently dropped their self-titled record. Formed by multi-instrumentalist friends Jimmy Adame and Elliott Miller, the band has drawn comparisons to artists such as Bear’s Den, Radiohead, and Bon Iver. In 2023, the duo started performing with friends Ian Gerrard  (lead electric guitar) and John Baldwin (bass). Their full band performances inspired them to take a hard turn into the rock genre, drawing inspiration from Foo Fighters and other 90’s grunge bands, which is reflected on this album. Hollow Head is a pensive, sweeping release– a captivating blend of driving, indie rock sounds and hazy ambience.

The tracks on this album range from soothing and languid to upbeat and succinct. Tracks like “I Can See You” feature impassioned rock vocals, crashing drums, and powerful guitar lines. “On My Mind” follows suit with large, dazzling instrumentals that span every inch of the song. “Splinter” eases into a more leisurely sound with serene guitar lines. “Follow Me” focuses on an easy, acoustic style that winds down the album. Hollow Head creates a style that samples all the best elements of indie rock.
