The Gaffes "Passerby" Single Review

Written by Brannon Duffin

Chicago-based alternative rock band The Gaffes released their new single "Passerby" on February 23, 2024 after taking a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. The band formed in 2017 by lead guitarist/songwriter Andy Byun, lead singer Clayton Eberly, rounded out with Connor Haley on bass and Jake Starr on drums. These 90's millennial babies have an eclectic combination of sounds reminiscent of bands like R.E.M., Oasis, and The Strokes.

Their comeback track "Passerby" features wailing guitar solos, rock-solid percussion, groovy bass, and hushedly energized vocals from all respective members. My favorite part is the final bridge of the song, which features an epic build-up; Starr is going off on the toms, Eberly is building tension and releases into Byun’s mad solo. I found out on my way to camp in Iowa that this song is perfect for windows down, summer road trips.

Congratulations to The Gaffes for heading back strong into the Chicago scene. They’ve got a summer banger here and I definitely recommend throwing this on your playlist.

Keep up with The Gaffes:
