In Loving Memory of Keaton Pierce (Too Close To Touch)- "Hopeless" Single Review

Written by Cheyenne Davey

Too Close To Touch is a Kentucky based band. The band currently consists of Mason Marble (guitar) and Kenny Downey (drums). The singer Keaton Pierce passed away March 28, 2022. Keaton's passing was a shock to everyone in the scene. It led to many coming together in his memory, including the incredible Bad Omens making tributes to him nightly on their tour at the time. On September 6, 2023, the remaining band members released the single "Hopeless" featuring Telle in honor of Keaton and his birthday, which was September 3rd. It's one of the last few recordings before his sudden passing.

"Hopeless" is a passionate final performance from the band. The pure and raw emotion that Keaton always exudes is incredible. Too Close To Touch was rapidly gaining popularity partly due to Keaton's insanely powerful vocals. This song is no exception. Keaton and Telle belt their hearts out and it makes for a goosebump inducing song, you can feel the emotions and desperation in their voices. The best part of the song is by far at 2:58-ish when Keaton screams and all instrumentals stop, enhancing his voice and the power it holds. Goosebumps and tears every single time. Telle's vocals are almost indistinguishable from Keaton's. He did a beautiful job of matching Keaton's energy and did his song justice. The instrumentals compliment the vocals so well.

The song is a gorgeous tribute to Keaton. The song was mostly done before he passed, Telle and the band did a wonderful job completing the song. I'm positive Keaton would be so proud of the work they've done. Keaton is dearly missed here at InAlternative and by many fans around the world. "Hopeless" is a bittersweet send off to one of the most talented vocalists of this scene. Rest in peace Keaton.
