Mike & The Nerve "Grace" Single Review

Written by Summer Knite

Gainesville, FL punk group Mike & the Nerve’s new single, Grace, released December 8th. The track shows the band once again combining their knack for catchy hooks with punchy drums and blazing guitars, bringing listeners right back to a time where punk hits dominated the charts. The song’s pop appeal is balanced perfectly with its hard hitting rock instrumental, allowing itself to build a bridge between audiences. The lyrics even feel a bit conceptual, creating Grace as a friendly character that the narrator wants to “stay in touch” with.

The vocals go through many different styles and inflections, showing lead vocalist Mike Llerena’s versatility as a punk singer. His yelling is punchy and hard-hitting, while his soaring melodies during the softer sections sound amazing too. The song also features a blazing guitar solo, along with an amazingly energetic rhythm section throughout. Grace finishes with another style changeup, making its final chorus a slower, piano-led section.

Mike & the Nerve have made a great comeback with Grace, and the song’s singalong chorus paired with its fantastic and unique songwriting make it worth any pop punk fan’s time.
