Chicago-based rock band Nora Marks released their latest single “Sit Pretty” at the beginning of June via DIY label Take a Hike Records. The single is a re-recorded version of the band’s first song, “fine-tuned with years of experience gigging and recording,” notes vocalist Michael Garrity. This heavy, no-stops punk anthem challenges narrow expectations through a loud, wild fit of uninhibited convictions.
“Sit Pretty” kicks open with furious energy, breaking out driving guitar/drums and shouted vocals. Lyrically, the song describes frustration with expressing emotions, "I try to communicate well but it’s too fucked up/There’s too much to say and too much that I can’t outrun.” The music mirrors this rage, like we’ve interrupted someone’s breaking point. The chorus details society’s expectation to repress, “The truth is they want me to learn how to stay and/Sit pretty.” In true punk rock fashion, this track challenges the status quo with badass, unflinching energy and sound.
