Sick Day "Overexposure" Single Review

Written by Demi Marshall

Chicago-based DIY indie grunge band Sick Day dropped their latest single “Overexposure” today, February 6th, 2024. The band is releasing an EP of the same name on March 14th via Substitute Scene Records, a Brooklyn-based label. Known for their “disarmingly honest, meaningful, and infectious indie grunge music,” the band has been making their mark on the Chicago music scene. Leor Galil of the Chicago Reader recently wrote that they “evoke the scruffy homemade eccentricity of many of the great 80s K Records acts” and are one of Chicago’s “next great emerging indie acts.”

Opening with driving drums and light, wailing guitar, the pace settles on a steady chug. Emphatic lead vocals sit at the forefront, creating an individual connection with the listener. With moments of delicate vocal harmonies and dynamic instrumental breaks, “Overexposure” is a captivating, brilliant indie track.
