Sin. "Wax Figures With Thoughts of Violence" Album Review

Written by Summer Knite

Sin. released their newest project, Wax Figures With Thoughts of Violence, on October 7th, 2023. The band hails from Chicago, boasting a psychedelic rock sound with elements of 90s grunge and punk as well. They are composed of vocalist/guitarist Ethan Oliver, lead guitarist Brian Chindblom, bassist Joe McTague, and drummer Caleb Nelson. The album includes 8 tracks, and totals just over half an hour in length.

The record features majorly distorted guitars and bass; the intro song, ".308 Hate," throws listeners right in with a tense yet groovy riff that heavily utilizes this distortion. The vocals are spacey and lysergic, which fits the sound and lyrics very well. Some tracks, like "Peel" include synth elements as well, which work as a startling and attention-grabbing change from the album’s usual sound.

Each track has its own distinct energy, with tracks like "Sun & Rain (Pounding 2)" keeping a more energetic pace, while songs like "When I Jump" maintain a lethargic and relaxed pace. The album features plenty of unique and noteworthy sounds that Sin. can be proud to call their own, and it's clear that they have taken time to hone their sound into something great.

Keep up with Sin.:
