The Erly "What To Do With You" Single Review

Michiana-based indie groove band The Erly recently dropped their single “What To Do With You” on June 14th, 2023. Featuring the talents of Alyssa Serviss (keys), Collin Mattiford (bass), Fran Gleason (drums), and Trevor McDonald (guitar), all members share the mic for lead vocals. The band formed in 2017, coining a style that, “would fit right in at both Woodstock '69 and at the indie nerve center that is SXSW.” The Erly has two albums/singles under their belt, and will be playing a variety of live shows in 2023. “What To Do With You” is a warm, groovy track, channeling a modern take on ‘70s soul.

Serviss leads the track with vocals that are smooth, mellow, and emotive, effortlessly immersing each listener in the lyrics. Exploring a relationship that’s past its expiration date, “What To Do With You” moves through the many changing dynamics. Backed by gleaming, syncopated instrumentals, the song is never rushed, gently coasting to its close. The Erly breathes new life into a dreamy, vintage style.
