Hard-hitting pop punk/emo trio The Region recently released their latest EP A New Point of View. Featuring the talents of Jake Cyprian (vocals/guitar), Phil Cyprian (bass/vocals), and Jon De St. Jean (drums), The Region is from InAlternative’s own local music scene in Northwest Indiana. The EP was self-produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Jake. A New Point of View is certainly a milestone for the band. With the most tracks of any EP in their discography, a song featuring Phil on lead vocals, and hosting their first live show in over three years, The Region is back and better than ever.
The opening track “Stand Up” encompasses the various styles featured on this EP. With heavy instrumentals and a mix of classic pop punk vocals/post-hardcore screams, the song stands out by seamlessly incorporating a range of genres. As with The Region’s previous releases, the lyrics are authentic and intentional, “Step back/From your perspective/And see from a new point of view.” Featuring the title in its lyrics, “Stand Up” lays thematic groundwork for what’s explored in the EP: Change, realization, and moving on.
“Under The Rug” is The Region’s first song to feature Phil on lead vocals. Composed mainly of similar post-hardcore style screams, this is a critical, angry track. This is evident through both style and lyrics, “I won’t forget/What you have done/Broken trust can’t be undone/How hard is it to just stay gone?” With a heavier sound than we’ve seen on previous EPs, the band’s talent and range is further exemplified.
“Our Paradise” switches gears in terms of sound. Featuring Cole Rodriguez on guest vocals, this track is bright and fun. With melodic guitar and catchy beats, it leans into upbeat pop elements. Altogether beachy and light, “Our Paradise” is the perfect song for your favorite summer playlist.
A New Point of View is fresh, gorgeously produced, and well-rounded. I feel like I could reflect on every single song. I always say this about The Region, but it’s true: The band continues to grow lyrically, stylistically, and in production quality with each release. Never becoming redundant or static, they build on a classic, homegrown pop punk/emo style while continuing to add new and exciting elements.
Keep up with The Region:
