Yorkshire-based indie rock/pop band The White Roses recently dropped their latest single “This Town.” Featuring Ellie Robinson, Jack Maw, Tom Lepard, and Charlie Edwards, the band brings back guitar music with a modern twist. Implementing classic rock sounds with vocal harmonies and atmospheric synths, they take influence from bands like The 1975, Fleetwood Mac, and Pale Waves. This single encapsulates the negativity surrounding small town culture, and the abundance of young people in them struggling with mental health issues. Altogether dreamy and somber, “This Town” is a cathartic indie anthem, a soothing light in the face of dark realities.
“This Town” forms danceable energy out the gate which follows through the entire song. Creating a full, bright sound, the song sparkles despite its gloomy lyrical tone. By using straightforward lyrics, the theme and message is clear, ensuring listeners connect with its sentiment. In addition to their influences, I also hear hints of artists like Japanese Breakfast and The Aces– Clean pop vocals backed by rock elements. We hope to see The White Roses make it to the US in the future, but for now, be sure to add them to your favorite playlist.
