Village Elder "Live at Postal" EP Review

Post-hardcore rockers Village Elder recently released a three track live EP Live at Postal. Based in Indianapolis, the band is comprised of Nicholas Wienke (vocals/guitar), Brendan Ellis (guitar/vocals), Thomas Sifferman III (bass/vocals), and Sean Kathman (drums). Following their first release of a self-titled album in 2021, Live at Postal brings Village Elder’s heavy instrumentals and emotive vocals to life with authentic energy.

“A” creates a slow build for most of the song before breaking into a heavy finish. Introspective lyrics and tone give way to emotional catharsis through screaming vocals, brooding guitar, and crashing drums. “B” picks up the tempo, featuring a mix of spoken and screaming vocals. The chorus is brief and despondent, “Just let it burn/Just let it burn/Oh well, I guess we’re outta luck.” Heavy instrumentals carry the weight of this song, articulating frustration and feelings of hopelessness.

Live at Postal is a resounding, pensive EP. Village Elder’s live energy and passion is striking through these songs, giving a taste of what listeners can expect at a show.
