Vulgar Commons "Capital" Single Review

Vulgar Commons is a four piece punk/post-punk band from Chicago. The band consists of Matt Shultz (vocals/guitar), TJ Romack (drums), Alejandro Lechuga (bass/vocals, and Michael Deaton (guitar/keys). They released their newest single "Capital” on May 26th, 2023.

"Capital" starts off with a killer, upbeat guitar riff that immediately revs you up for the song. It starts out fast and keeps the classic punk vibes throughout the whole song. When I think of punk, I normally think of fast paced songs that get your blood pumping and ready to dance. Vulgar Commons definitely has those instrumentals that make it just impossible not to nod along. While Vulgar Commons does have a classic punk sound, they also create their own unique sound that stands out from your everyday punk band. I especially love their unique vocals. My personal favorite is the unclean, raspy vocals. Nothing like a good scream to spice up a song. The beginning has a vocal build up that seems to get faster and louder before hitting a banging peak. The lyrics are repetitive enough to be catchy as well. They’re also unique and fun to sing along to. "Capital" definitely has heart and soul to it– a fantastic way to start your summer.

Overall I really enjoy "Capital." It has all the elements of a punk banger and is sure to make Vulgar Commons popular among the punk scene. I can't wait to see what they do later this year. Be sure to check them out and give their previous music a listen!
