Chicago alt-rock group Vulgar Commons has returned with their newest single, “Whatever Place We Call Ours.” This newest song sees the band stripping back, making an acoustic ballad. The vocals are deep and gruff, with lyrics showing the band’s emotional maturity. The repeating acoustic guitar is beautiful, yet haunting; this feeling increases when the piano introduces itself, and especially later, when the song becomes an amazing swell of strings and guitar. While this song shows a drastic switch-up in the band’s sound, they handle it incredibly well. The group has expanded their horizons, while still allowing the new piece a place in their catalog.
