Artist of the week: Whitney

Our artist of the week is Chicago-based pop duo Whitney. Consisting of Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek, the band’s third album Spark was released this past fall. Whitney feels they found their sound on this album, and are excited to share it with the world. Last year, the band played three consecutive hometown shows at Chicago’s Thalia Hall. You can catch Whitney touring the US again this March, 2023. Check out the list of dates and purchase tickets here.

Song of the Week: “For a While”

On January 31, 2023 Whitney released their song “For a While.” The song was actually a staple in the band's early touring days and was formerly known as “Rolling Blackouts.” Max and Julien finished writing and recording the song during their 2022 song and used footage from their tour for the music video. Julien says the song was inspired by a crash they saw in Northern Illinois, “From what we could see everyone made it out safely, but in that moment we were both struck by the ubiquity of anonymous tragedy. Over the course of writing ‘For A While’ that experience evolved into a feeling of gratitude and love for all the people who aren’t able to be with us today. We’ve been working on this song for a few years and a few different phases of our lives. It’s seen some people come and go. We love you all.” The song “For a While” is soothing and heartfelt. It feels like a song that would be played over a relaxing summer montage in a movie. It’s catchy and sure to catch the attention of the Chicago alt scene.

Keep up with Whitney:
